Aviation criminal law: LH passenger takes stewardess as hostage

A 28 year-old man from Kosovo on board a Lufthansa (LH) flight from Munich to Budapest took a stewardess as hostage with the threat of a razor blade on 1 April. The aircraft returned to Munich airport, where the man was convinced to surrender. No serious injuries occurred.

Laser striker sentenced to 14 years imprisonment

According to a press release of the US Attorney for the District of California, a 26-year-old male person was sentenced to 14 year in prison on 10 March 2014 for aiming with a laser against the crew of a police helicopter. The defendant had a series of criminal convictions in the past.

Luxembourg Court of Appeals renders judgment on LUXAIR case

   The Court of Appeals of Luxembourg for criminal cases delivered on 21 Jan. 2014 its judgment on the LUXAIR accident case. The judgment concerned also civil claims brought before the criminal court for damages (mainly mental injuries and loss of beloved ones) resulted from the defendants’ criminal behavior (violation of the rules of the air and involuntary manslaughter). The Court awarded damages between 11.500 € and 130.500 € plus interest and judicial expenses.
